Problems concerning Marine Life and Conservation
Solutions to the Threats
The Earth's surface is made of 70% ocean water. This Marine ecosystem is full of amazing creatures including many types of jellyfish, sharks, whales, fish, and other cold-blooded or partially warm-blooded animals. There are 3 main layers that the ocean consists of: Surface Ocean, Deep Ocean, and Seafloor.
The threats that plastic pollution, over-fishing, waste pollution, acid rain, dead zones, and many other natural and man-made dangers pose to the health of our oceans is clear. Without adequate protections and corporate responsibility, we face inflicting irreversible damage and possibly causing the collapse of the marine ecosystem. We’ve already removed at least two-thirds of the large fish in the ocean, and one in three fish populations have collapsed since 1950. To put it simply, there are too many boats chasing too few fish.
We can help in many ways! For instance, we can cut down on waste by using the three R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle! Did you know that there are only two types of plastics are 100% recyclable, they are PET and HDPE which means every time we use PVC, LDPE, PP, PS, or other types of plastics that are used in making grocery bags, bottles, or containers that there is a chance it will end up in the ocean. We can also cut down on using fossil fuels since they give off pollutions that tarnish the ocean. Marine reserves can also help replenish marine animal populations decimated by overfishing, meaning a more sustainable food supply for all of us in the long run.
